Ted Talk- Nancy Lublin: Texting that saves lives
Logos- Nacy lubin uses statistics in the very beginning of
her speech to catch the attention of the audience. She says, “The average teen
sends 3,339 text message each month.” With this she shows us how important it
is to listen to her topic because of the large amount of texts sent by teens.
She also says, “texting has a 100% open rate,” to show parents that kids really
do read all their text messages. Lastly she states, “Do something organization
finds texting 11 times more powerful than email.” With all of these statistics
Nancy makes it clear that texting is a very powerful way of communication.
Ethos-Nancy Lubin is CEO and Chief Old Person at
DoSomething.org. This position is a good, fairly high position and helps Lubin’s
believability. Also, being on TED automatically builds credibility and we feel
that what she is saying is important because she was chosen to speak on the
show.
Pathos- Lubin also uses pathos to sway the audience. She says,
“ the phone is life line.” A specific example from her talk is when she says, “we
received a text from a girl that said, he won’t stop raping me, he told me not
to tell anyone, it’s my dad, are you there?” This text is extremely emotional
definitely makes the audience listen. She then goes to say that they could help
people like this girl with their texting hotline.
Audience- TED audience
Purpose- Her purpose is to try and persuade people that texting
can save lives.
