jimmy v/clint eastwood

The video that I found to be the most effective was the speech given by Jim Valvano. This is one of the most powerful speeches ever delivered. The target audience for this speech was not only the audience at the 1993 ESPY awards, but also the entire country. He was trying to get everyone to understand how important it is to donate to cancer research. The context was coach Valvano's last appearance. He had been diagnosed with cancer and did not have a lot of time left, which made this speech that much more effective. He succeeded in every way he possibly could. He gave advice that is applicable to everybody in their daily lives by telling them to think, love, and cry daily. He gave past life experiences to show where he has come from and where he is now. He used this as a basis to talk about cancer research and all that is needed to be done. The only thing that I can think of that is wrong with this speech is that coach Valvano didn't have more time to speak. He included ethos, pathos, and logos to a very high degree throughout this speech. Jimmy V's foundation has received millions of dollars in donations and many lives have been changed due to this awesome award acceptance from coach Valvano.
The video that I found to be the least effect was the speech given by Clint Eastwood. The target audience was the crowd at the Republican National Convention. It was also all American people and the opposing parties. The context was the surprise speaker at the RNC. People were very excited to hear Eastwood speak at this convention. He succeeded by using some humor in his speech and by exciting the crowd. He also made it clear that our country needs to be fixed, which is definitely a valid point. He failed by making himself look a little bit crazy with the concept of him speaking to a chair. Eastwood also did not really have this speech planned out so it seemed as though he had no clear idea that he wanted to convey to the audience. This speech was average at best and could have been vastly improved.
