This college commencement speech's purpose was to encourage graduating college students of the arts in their future careers and love of the arts. Neil Gaiman had several points of advice; 1. You don't know what you are doing when you start off in your field of work, 2. Do what you want and love to do, 3. You will not succeed in everything you do, you will have failures, 4. Make mistakes because it means you are doing something, and 5. Make your art because your art is yours. He also makes a point of telling the graduates to make good art and that somehow people get hired, be who you are and you will get hired somehow.
The agent of the speech was Neil Gaiman, a successful writer. The agency would be his speech in which he related his life to them and used humor. The scene is the 2012 Commencement Speech at the University of the Arts. His purpose was to tell these college graduates that there is hope and that they shouldn't give up, he wanted to inspire them and give them advice, some of it personal from his own life and learnings. Lastly the act was that he affected the students. He was successful in getting his point across.
I found the greatest relationship to be between the Agent, Neil Gaiman, and the purpose, to inspire the students. First of all, Neil Gaiman is a big enough name to bring into a liberal arts school graduation to grab everyone's attention. He knows their future struggles better than many out there. The way he tell them about his life and struggles and triumphs makes his purpose strong. He wants to encourage the students and if the who he is and was doesn't then I don't know what else could.
