Neil Gaiman

The scene, the commencement speech at the university of the arts 2012, was set by the agent. The agent was Neil Gaiman, a writer who never even graduated from college, but found success through his constant writing and being himself. The agency was him speaking. He got on the platform at this graduation and through speaking, delivered a very inspirational message to the graduates and all in attendance. The act would be him giving career and life advice to all who listened, but especially the graduated of the university of the arts. The main point of Mr. Gaiman's speech was to enjoy whatever you do. Whether you are a writer, musician, or a dancer, take your life experiences to help you going forward and make good art. His purpose was to tell the graduates that no matter what they encounter in their careers, they need to love their work and do it for themselves, not for money. He said that they will make mistakes and they should be content with those mistakes. He basically wanted them to enjoy what they do and all the while, make good art. One of the most important ratio's was the relationship between purpose and agency. He used the agency, the act of speaking, to convey his the purpose of his message to the audience. He spoke with passion and confidence, which showed that he truly believed that if you stay true to yourself, you can get to wherever you want to go in your career. The second most important ratio was the relationship between the scene and act. The scene, the university of the arts, contains an audience of people that will really appreciate his message. Gaiman is a writer and with this being an art school, it is fair to assume that many of the students graduating have a desire to pursue a career in writing. With that said, the scene allows for his act of giving career advice in the writing field much more relatable to the audience.
