Aimee Mullins Speech

How am I socially constructed? That is a difficult question to answer. I guess I would say I am socially constructed to want to "be normal".  Like Aimee Mullins described it, there really is no normal, its really more...just not out of the ordinary. I don't necessarily like to be the best in anything because I do not want the attention. That doesn't mean I don't have traits that set me apart from others. I have been told my humor sets me apart. I can be witty at times and while I do not always say the right thing, I can usually come up with something funny to say in any situation.

One way my humor can be interpreted or "inscribed" is probably avoiding confrontation. I hate confrontation and saying something funny is probably my way out of it. I am a very easy going person (or at least I think I am), so when confrontation arises I do not like to deal with it. I have my own opinions and I respect other people's opinions, but take note, I will not engage in a debate with you about our opinions.

Overall, I would say I am socially constructed to have my own opinions and let other people have theirs. And if I slip a funny line in somewhere, well that's okay too.
