Today in class my partner and I looked over our list of 5 things that are true. Incidentally, 4 of the things on her list were in fact, true statements. You could Google them or look them up in world fact books and they would be there, clear as day. The one thing on her list that could actually be said to not be true was, "Clemson is the greatest University in the state".
Based off of academics and public university rankings, yes we are the greatest of any other universities in the state, and as much as it pains me to have to point out that it is not the greatest university, it could be proven that it is not. If you were to say it was the greatest university based off the football program, for example, we have consistently lost to USC the past 3 years, and are currently ranked higher than us, so they would win in that category.
I think Clemson being the best university in the state is a social constructivism belief that is promoted on campus by students, teachers, coaches, etc. It is a pretty easy "truth" that can be negated by those who have not attended here or those who attend South Carolina. Of course whatever school you go to, you are going to think it is the best, no matter if it really is or not.
Obviously I consider Clemson being the best school in the state a true statement, but playing the devil's advocate, I can see why others would disagree.
