Working with my partner
and learning the 5 things she believed to be true, was actually interesting to
be. However, finding a flaw in one of her "known facts" was very
difficult. I had to really think on this one! Which one seemed breakable? Which
one seemed closer to a thought and not necessarily a fact? Looking through the list, I
finally found one I could pick threw. "Right now I'm HUNGRY!" I
believe it me took a while to notice this as something that had the potential
to be untrue because I too at that very moment was hungry too! However, I was
munching on a snack and she wasn't. Looking at the time I noticed it was almost
12:15, a great time for lunch (something that is social constructed). In society lunch
is around noon. It's about that time that we tell ourselves that my
tummy is craving something good! Her "known fact" became a social construction. It was something that exists completely within the realm of human society
and is complete with specific rules, morals, expectations etc. Society has
created certain ideas about how hunger is supposed to look, as well as, how it
is supposed to be fulfilled by individuals. As you can possibly determine, a
vast amount of our culture is socially constructed.
